There were a total of 81,062 such patents.  Then I narrowed the search to find out how many patents have <em>at least one inventor<\/em> (there are often multiple inventors). who was listed as a resident of a country other than the U.S.   The number of patents by country of the inventor are reported in figure 1.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Figure 1, By country of inventor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jamie.workingagenda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/cancer_country_inventor.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/jamie.workingagenda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/cancer_country_inventor.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"cancer_country_inventor\" width=\"600\" height=\"\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1008\" srcset=\"http:\/\/jamie.workingagenda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/cancer_country_inventor.png 701w, http:\/\/jamie.workingagenda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/cancer_country_inventor-219x300.png 219w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 701px) 100vw, 701px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I then searched the database, using the same criteria for dates and specifications, for the (non-US) country of the entity receiving the assignment of the patent.
